A610 L790 LVR

Well I purchased this car earlier this year and it's history is well known and documented.
However I started about 4 weeks ago puting the car back to standard, as it had been lowered and only had about 75mm of travel before the stops.
The ride was too radical for me so, removed the frunt suspension to change the springs, then found one side of the front box section had got the rot, so have just finished rebuilding that in s/s.
From that the front sills also need doing, which I have just started and will also do them in S/S but the good old drivers floor pan is bad. so can you get this as a spare part or is it more fabrication. Stuart

From this, decided to take of some fibreglass off the top of the front box section, all looked good from the top but under the glass the picture says it all.

Crikey O'Reilly, that was Kelloggs, what aroused you suspicions it was that far up? When I cut the front of mine I could see up and it all looked nice and clean, just the double skin where the rack mounts was pooped. Hats off though that's going at it proper, makes the back of your legs ache though don't it! Can't stand in the bay 'cos of the two sections that support the tank are in the way.

Having just rebuilt the frunt box section on my atmo, the thought of doing it again was not on the top of my list. The 610 looks the same but the more I looked at it,they are not. First it has two more dividers for extra strength.This means it makes two sealed compartments, so any condensation is then trapped. As per the atmo, there is no rust prevention anywhere inside. The other factor is the brake servo is on the left and is operated by a transfer shaft through the lower part of the box section, this is supported by two bush which are bolted into the lower box section, so the remaking has to be very precise = a lot more time. The end result in stainless.

Yes great stuff, not my thing, but do appreciate what goes into it, and I would likely have to get pro help... Interesting, comparing your atmo, is the 610 worse for the rot worm? Just seems every one that is coming up at the moment is bran flaes wrapped in plastic... don't see this on the Frenchy sites or their mags from what I have seen... time for a new song- "I got up his morning, and decided to dust away my sills...." most worrying bit is they all must be in a similar state.. eek... don't really want to be finding out when it's too late :wtf

The atmo was worse because the top of the box section is covered completely with fibreglass not just one side.
In general I am impressed with the minimal amount of rot in these cars, you have got to put it in to perspective, these are classic cars and are 20 / 30 years plus old and are only now coming up for rust work for the first time. Most other makes are up for 2nd and are far more complex to do, as thay are all steel, ie the floor pan forms part of one side, then the inner sill,then the outer all rust.The renault sill is fairly simple and it is only the bottom bit that needs work mainly. Prevention is better than cure, so it would be prudent for instance, to cut the top of the box section off, hoover out ,weld new top on with access holes, and put wax oil in, to slow the rot down, even if it needs work you know where you stand.
