History on G589 RFV

Postby rcalpine » Mon Feb 02, 2015 8:04 pm

Hi, I'm after any history on a 1989 red GTA atmo I bought a while ago that I'm restoring, registration number G589 RFV chassis number VFAD5000500040530, it's had 11 former keepers so I was hoping someone on here may have owned it at sometime!, it was in a very poor state when I got it, rusty chassis and crankshaft had snapped in two!. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks Richard.

Doesn't ring any immediate bells. Whereabouts are you in the country? Any details on previous owners or where you bought it from? Any pictures of your GTA and what you have done to it so far?

Hang on, did you buy some bits from me on ebay? Was it an ATMO from on the Wirral/Liverpool area with a smashed drivers window that was for sale on ebay a good few years ago? Red?

Thanks for the replys, let's hope I can manage to post a reply....totally useless at modern technology!.

Yes, I got it from Liverpool March 2009, great seller who advertised it on Ebay. The engine was not in the car when I got it, when stripped the crankshaft had a clean break at the flywheel end where the bearing joins the crank web, looks like it was still running like this! the only other damage I could find were the thrust bearings, nothing was seized. Could've been a faulty casting, over revved ?. My guess is the engine had fallen of an engine crane and landed on the flywheel end....Any other ideas?

I got the GTA as I had a scrap Citroen XM with the 12 valve 2996cc EFI PRV in which, is now ready to go in after being stripped, rebuilt and modified to fit the GTA.

The front subframe was very rusty which I removed from the car complete to repair, the center box section on which had just disappeared! I,'ve also put in complete new outer sills and outriggers, removed the rear shock absorber turrets repaired those and got them back in. The door hinge posts seem fine however. Rear subframe was rusty as well.

I've been through all the suspension components, shotblasting, repairing rust, powder coating, new bushes etc.

I need to get the shell repainted and put it back together.

I have bought some used parts from RATS and ebay !

Parts I need are windscreen, exhaust system, drivers seat (black cloth) headlight glasses, and lots of time.

I've taken photos so I'll get some posted soon if your interested.

Thanks Richard (Gloucestershire).

Do you still have the CX? If so what about the door mirrors? If they are the later more aerodynamic ones please PM me.

Cheers
