The Chinese are leading the world in metal hardening processes.
No one else can harden the surface with such a thin layer on a bearing! :D

doesn't really matter if the parts aren't precise or incorrect size and your wheels come off halfway down the road....... just like good old Chinese quality....

Hi Andy,
Thanks for your perspective.
I know of at least one Winner radiator that survived at Macon this year, and I'd bet there were whole load more....and TBH the french bits of these cars aren't great either... nice concepts, cheaply executed over the whole car. There are at least a couple more in the UK GTA fleet too.
The originals have plastic header tanks ...at least this one is all metal....
It'll have plenty of time to bed in before Macon...maybe..

The french one on Ebay at 280Euro looks to be from the same school of welding too.

mespieces auto.... sells Chinese made stuff if anyone's thinking of buying from him.....

if a number of people wanted rads, I know a good rad manufacturer in uk who could make one or a group buy of several units, plus the quality and fit will be top notch just need a unit to copy and they could be done in a week or so.... but maybe I'm just pissin in the wind with the idea.....

The tablecloth shows what I think you've bought :MoreSarc
Was more the size/volume of the end tanks on the Winner one that concerns me.Can see them sludging up pretty quickly .....
Got a local firm also that will make anything but forget 'group buys' as not enough market here or on the continent. It's all one off as and when we need it and priced accordingly for custom.

What's in JIL lee?

Ps well spotted on the lemons, I sit at that table every day but I hadn't noticed....
Won't aluminium be better than copper in reducing electrolytic interaction, same metal as the block. Shame the pipes front to rear are steel. This way you eliminate the copper...
Let see what happens, I hope type d will stop sludge... :hang

Electrolytic interaction my aunt fanny ..I seem to recall seeing 6 large steely looking things sitting inside the block ...Type D ? I can't remember whether that Yorkshireman specified it or not but afaik it's sat and not run for 4 years since it went back ?
JIL, custom job made by the local fella before he retired ,copper end tanks .

Well one step forward....

After a few years holiday in Yorkshire, it's now back at Rats for an assessment...Andy didn't seem to be too tearful as it departed, but did give me a surprisingly comprehensive history file for it as I left.

Some good news...sills, rear turrets and wheel arch pockets all look fine, but the bad news is the front cross member ( :( ), one front suspension mounting point and a jacking point need some attention...but at least Lee got it running after I left...

It also gets the prize for one of the worst paint jobs in the GTA universe(and the pictures make it look better than it is) ...but I knew that beforehand and that can be fixed. The water got under the loose lacquer on the way down the M1, giving it a fungus like appearance. I keep saying to myself "keep focusing on what it will look like"

Something odd about the rear wheels too... :angel

Front cross members seem to be the norm now. In fact the front end in general is starting to come off worse. Yours doesn't sound too bad.

To try and cheer you up check out the breaker. The steering rack has come completely away! Rotten as a pear. Also the brake servo was rotten. Is yours ok?

Yeah it's a lovely job to fix, doesn't matter whether it sat in a garage or not, sweats and rusts from the inside out due to temperature change. Tank out job and cut of the top of the box section, hopefully a weld repair and then fill with wax oil. If the steering rack is loose it's a whole box section replacement . :up

Crapmo resto begins ...Lump out, front running gear off + bumper, tank etc etc etc ....
Overall not that much rot in the car itself so a smallish job for nextdoor ... :axe Water pipes to come out then it'll be pushed down the line .

Nice to see progress, and somehow the chassis looks better with the rusty suspension out of the way.
Have the new water pipes arrived (Cedric??) from the pictures the existing ones seem Ok, but as I have some nice new ones on the way it seems sensible to change them.

Can anyone recommend a source of rubber hoses too?

Seems silly to put old rubber back with new metal pipes, recent water pump and a new rad...
There are some sets on ebay and usual suspects list them, but I want to get them quickly so all the bits are ready for reassembly when it comes back from the rust man next door.
I'll be going to spectate at Goodwood in something other than this crusty look GTA ...not that there was ever a different plan. I was dreaming...(must have been) for the opposite of concourse prize....worst looking car that still moves award...
