I don't think £75 for a custom fuel line is expensive ...You'll pay £80 for a brakeline kit.

Okay just remove the top wiring loom it is in need of some major TLC, however the wires coming out of the throttle position sensor one of them is just about to fall off right at the plastic can you open the plastic up to put new wires In i have not touched it yet.

They are still available new but at ridiculous expense. Even if it's sealed I'm sure it must be possible to cut around the seam carefully, repair and bond back together. Or use a universal part with similar range on an adaptor bracket.

Since WWII Renault has always had the French government as a major shareholder and one of the issues that comes with that is that the Government insist Renault always borrowed from them when they needed investment. Although that sounds good, it actually turned out to be a poor deal as the Government wanted a commercial rate of interest that could have been bettered if the company were allowed to go to the market instead.
With this in mind, the French Gov have consistently put professional business men in charge of various parts of the company, rather than anyone with an automotive leaning. The positive from that is they've always repaid every single loan they've received (unlike all the other French automotive manufacturers that the French gov have bailed out), but the downside is that they've been run by guys who's only interest is the next model at the right cost and price.
Keeping spares for older cars has never been something they've considered important, to such an extent that stocks for older cars have regularly been sent to the crusher rather than spend the money to store it elsewhere...

They have had the odd adventure such as the manufacture of the R5T, Clio V6 and Spider.
But initially their main adventure was Alpine, but it was always a financially restricted operation where the Alpine guys themselves tried to use as much of the money as possible for competition rather than road cars and their development.
But these were all about 'selling cars today' branding.

They've also been poor at keeping their dealer network happy. This was especially the case with the 'fair competition' thing that came in a few years back, which meant manufacturers couldn't legally stop a dealer from selling other manufacturers cars.
Before this came into effect Renaults idea for the UK was to set up their own network (owned at least partially by them) so they started being really arsey with their dealers and really pissed off a few long long time Renault dealerships (some stayed despite being treated so poorly) . Unfortunately for Renault the new operations were crap and most went bust within a few years, so they've had to set up a new network (using Nissan where possible) but these newer dealers don't give a toss about the older stuff.

Add to this the general UK view of "It's only a Renault" and we can see why GTAs (and until recently A310s and A610a) prices have been so low. They have increased but I wouldn't expect much movement for a few years yet, so Renault are unlikely to put much effort into the spare parts whilst others can cover it.

It is a really brave move for Renault to consider having dedicated showrooms for the Alpine brand. Will it really work financially when there is only one model ? They will need to employ dedicated salespeople who are passionate about the brand. They will also need to offer sensible part exchange prices for customers cars (not necessarily Alpines). This will require a good sales manager with contacts in the specialist car market.

Alternatively they may embrace it totally, use the new facilities to sell the part exchanged cars, much like the TVR dealers used to do. Many were happy to have Lotuses, Porsches & Morgans sitting in their showrooms. Its another way to pay the rent & cover the costs. it also shows faith & dedication to the brand.

If it makes you feel better this is the state of a BMW line from the same era ....and there are 4 to replace although no engine out ....

How did Nissan and Toyota deal with Infiniti and Lexus?
Did they have separate dealers?

Well the auto electrician and I spent this afternoon running new Pos/Neg cables to the engine bay plus the repair of the cable in to the position sensor, we then started working on the top wireing loom but after just pulling back one section of sheathing gave up it's amazing the car even ran.

Well he brought back my lower loom all redun so I can now put the engine back in, but before that I now have to remove the inlet manifold to change both knock sensors as they are all cracked. Plus l am putting mour heat shielding around the starter motor and the back of the alternator as I've had to have that rebuilt as the back of that had all melted.

I have found Autosparks really good, if they don't list the loom, just send your old one in and they will copy it.

...my man ....They are just the other side of the M1 from RATS .
I have all the std looms on the bench 610 and GTA just not got round to asking them.I need a couple of extra bits adding but that's for special jobs and/or ECU/sensor changes .
It would be better,cheaper if we had some commitment from any people interested to get made.Commitment as in say a couple of hundred quid deposit each .....
Again ...'Club' help would help or I can just risk having 10 looms I cant sell :silent This is where the RTOC used to excel ...they'd stump up for development and add minimal markup .Any profits going back into the club coffers .

I agree although the loom looks quite complicated when it's on the engine actually when you remove the top and lower loom they are not that big, and surely it would be much better to have new looms in stock because as these cars get older they are definitely going to need replacement.
When the electrician pulled back the thin black supposedly heat shield all the cables basically have plastic hairline crack's in them or are rock hard it looks like the actual cables weren't really heat rated and they're relying on the outer shield.
All I am trying to say is that a lot of classic car club's have available from stock and advertise on their sites new up rated parts of basic common problem parts as replacements plus modifications or up grades, Plus the garages that work on them advertise their services and what upgrades they can do to the vehicles, this all helps people who own or are thinking of buying one that there is support for the vehicle they going to buy.

I'm pretty sure you are on the right lines with the loom.

Stuart - If you get one made get the person to keep all the specs and explain that there could be ten or so more customers for them if it cures the fault. As for the "club" stepping forward you have two hopes.

Preaching to the converted brother ...It will cost about £6/700 quid I guesstimate .They already do a loom for the V6 310 £550 odd but will be more connectors on the Turbo types ..

It's what a club should do .I'm quite happy to donate the looms and pop in to see it through but it doesn't make business sense for me to commission a run.I've done it before and just lose money .The only really successful part has been the headlamp covers .The rest of the polycarb kit and other bits I've just done because I needed them ....you can imagine how much that cost to get done with 10 sheets off glass to take moulds from ......
Same with you and the fuel lines . I'm sure you'd be willing to do the same thing to help others out but not to have 5 pairs of lines sitting in your garage ...
