Evap solenoid A610?

Postby r5gordini » Fri Mar 03, 2017 2:08 pm

Hi All,

I'm cracking on with the A610 Megasquirt conversion. As part of my troubleshooting, I have discovered that the evaporative solenoid isn't working - i.e. the one that vents the charcoal canister and allows the engine to burn the captured fuel vapours.

Do I need to worry if it's not working? I assume it's stuck shut, not open. Will check. But I have measured its resistance - it's open circuit so cannot possibly work.

Any thoughts on a replacement? Should I just not bother? What's the effect of a stuck shut valve? I know the effect of one that's open could be poor running and idling due to the induced vacuum leak.

Thanks,

Andrew

P.s. I was planning to control it via the MegaSquirt. Just needs a transistor to drive it.

maybe another A610 owner can advise you on how this works on their car.

A quick google..says...the valve controls fuel vapour flows, it captures any fumes released during pressurisation (temperature changes) and feeds them back into the engine when it's running..if the valve is faulty you may get pressurisation of the fuel tank, and/or a small leak of air into the inlet manifold. They sound quite generic so I'd have thought a replacement from a similar aged Renault would be the simplest solution.

Yep thanks! I did try to search myself but didn't come across much that would tell me about a stuck closed valve.

I found this - it looks the same. Interestingly the advert says it's in full working condition but according to the photos one of the ports is pretty much hanging off in thin air! No good :-(

Will keep looking.

£35 for a clearly broken valve...mad.
But it's an espace part so maybe it's simple to find a replacement. Lots being scrapped right now, and it's probabaly common to diesels too.
