Alpine down under.

Postby Paul Tommo » Wed Mar 29, 2017 4:20 am

Hi all,
I have just bought my first Alpine. Its a 1988 GTA originally delivered new to New Zealand and imported into Australia by the previous owner in 2004. I also have a R1135 Gordini so not a complete novice but this is somewhat different. Not sure how to post a photo.

Paul,

Hi,
It was always a white car but it has been re painted White Pearl.
It needs some work as in the suspension bushes and gear box seals. I also need a workshop manual any ideas where to get one?

Enjoy,
Paul.

Hi Paul. The car looks great. Mine is also pearl & like yours has been re-painted, albeit some time ago. It's much darker than yours - more cream.

The last time I looked there was a workshop manual on eBay.uk with a buy it now price of £115

There's a manual on eBay at the moment at £35.95 plus postage.

Are you anywhere near Melbourne by any chance?

I found a manual on the internet which I have printed off. Not sure how much detail it has yet.
Keen to get some parts happening for the suspension etc. I'll contact you when I know what exactly I will be needing.

I am in Bathurst NSW 2 hours west of Sydney.

That's the manual that used to be in the technical section on the RAOC website. Good find.
My eldest son lives in Melbourne, that's why I asked.

Hi Alan,
Yes I did. Drove it home 1200 km on a permit.
Its been let go a bit as its been siting for 7+ years.
It needs a little TLC to the suspension, gearbox seals, cooling system, electrical, AC etc and I hope to have it on Club rego in 2018.

Sounds good. Having A/C is a bit of a rarity. It used to run quite well, and still must, given the 1200 Klm trip. The twin barrel Weber is an upgrade from the original, but perhaps a small Holley four barrel and manifold would be best power for money. They do drive nice, and handle quite well, although I have had mine bite at the limit on the track. It should be fun, and not much slower than the Turbo, with a better exhaust note.
