Steering wheel removal

I'm trying to remove the steering wheel on my GTA so I can get the instrument cluster out. I've been trying for about 18 hours now.

I'm assuming the wheel comes off by driving an M7 bolt into the two threaded holes.

I travelled everywhere yesterday looking for an M7 bolt, and in the end had to make one on my lathe this morning. It doesn't fit.

Can anybody please tell me how it comes off.

Is it an imperial thread? Can I get away with just prising the thing apart with a metal bar?

SOLVED.

After 18 hours I finally found in the manual how to remove the steering wheel, it wasn't where you'd expect it.

It is indeed an M7 bolt required, mine was machined to 45mm and I only needed one.

Beware. M7 is a very unusual size, I suggest you all buy one off the internet and keep it with your wheel locking nut tools.

Loads of M7s on the engine....just whip a long one off the rocker or timing cover if you ever get stuck

I might have a conversion boss somewhere, but where??

I have a boss.... but the long pin that cancels the indicators is U/S. just means you have to remember to switch them off..

Remove the 2 Allen bolts. Remove the circlip. Drive an m7 bolt into one of the threaded holes to release.

Ok, but it's too late.
I drilled the screws inside the steering wheel. It did not want to move. Is the steering column shared with other renault?
