1987 gta turbo oil temperature sender

Does any one know where I can get one of these?
The only thing that does not work on the car is the oil temperature gauge, and the sender has been clouted on something before I had it. Mine is screwed through the sump drain plug. :GTA

I don't think there is one...There's a pressure sensor and the oil level indicator sensor.

... which only works for a few seconds when you turn the ignition on

No temp gauge in std form.Temp sensor in sump on early cars but mainly Atmo but not gauge related .

So the gauge that looks like oil temp is actually oil level?
What is the sender in the sump plug for?
It is wired into the original loom.
Looks like I shall have to explore further.

Hi Mark ....... Welcome to the club .... I see you only just joined today. :)
Only the 1986 Turbo Model Year Alp had an oil temperature switch fitted, but it did not operate an oil temperature gauge, as there is none. But it did help to operate a rather complicated fan system cooling the engine bay.
That switch is not mentioned in any of the electrical manuals 1987 Model Year onwards.
BTW ... that broken switch of yours is not screwed through the sump drain plug ... the drain plug can be found half way along the front edge of the sump ..... hard to see, unless you are underneath.
Unfortunately I do not know where you can get a temperature switch ..... but someone on here might be able to help.

As John says
Item 15 is a thermoswitch on an atmo, related to the idle speed during warm up (on my car its broken and I have been unable to find an undamaged replacement yes, I'm trying to make one good one out of two).
On a Turbo...its related to engine bay fan speed control.
The oil level gauge sensor isn't shown on the diagram that you have attached.
This was listed at Simon Auto so you might try them...if its not listed on the catalogue, let them know and they may well have a second hand one. Clee or JL Engineering may have a SH one too.

If you haven't noticed any performance or cooling issues, you can probably live without them.

BTW the sump plug is on the front of the engine sump in the car, not the side, this switch isn't the sump plug.

Thanks guys, I've got a lot to learn about these cars.
My oil level sensor, and/or gauge, is not working then it seems.

As Rupert says above ...... as long as there is sufficient oil in the sump, the needle will read for a very short while, as soon as you switch on the ignition......... You have to be quick to catch it though. ;)
