How to 'safely' jack up the front end of an A610.

Postby Bazzer501 » Fri Jan 05, 2018 8:17 am

Hi all,
Well, now that Christmas is passed I need to get on with some work on my A610.

I need to remove the front bumper in order to remove the radiator and air con condenser which has been holed so I have no working air con.
I have already bought a replacement aluminium radiator from ax-autoparts in France and need still to find a place that can re-core the air con condenser or find a suitable replacement. ( I'll post more details on this once the jobs have been done).

Firstly though I need to get the front of the car raised high enough to get access to the undershield to remove this and then the bumper itself and I can't even get my A610 up the standard car ramps that I have.

Can someone tell me where the 'safe jacking points are at the from of an A610 so that I can get it onto a pair of axle stands please...? Any advice would be welcome.

Thanks in anticipation, Barry.

That looks a tad corroded.
I was worried about some surface rust on mine, no where near as bad as that though.

Is OK .......New ones going in but yes it's completely fucked and major restoration in progress.
New bits ..Jack/stands where there is an upright Barry. Where the turrets are etc .
You can jack on the leading edge of the foot-well as all steel but....just be aware......subject to condition :up

i made up a couple of `helper` ramps, so I could get under the front of my GTA . As you say standard car ramps are no good because of the length of the front overhang (the same as the A610) By using these it gives an 8" lift under the front wheels which is enough to remove the undertray etc.

yup, I use a couple of 3 foot scaffold boards to do the same. Works a treat.

Barry,
The A610 condenser is too small in capacity for 134A gas to work effectively, so you tend to get high head pressures and reduced output. To compensate manufacturers have come up with smaller and lighter designs that have a greater thermal capacity than the ancient system in the 610.
John Viola put a more modern condenser of this type in his GTA, which made the AC work much better as well as being thinner (and probably lighter).
If you have a search on here there is quite a thread about this.the GTA design is very similar to a water radiator but modern AC condensers look very different.
I'd recommend you do the same with the A610...but of course the same part for the GTA may not fit, but it was a universal fit part from a range of different sizes. You will need to get custom hoses made but that's a small price to pay for having VERY efficient Ac in the 610.
The standard set up is only OK in capacity, from what I can remember.

If I can do it Barry you can too :up

As said above scaffold boards to create another ramp to get on the metal ones.

Hi all,
Thanks for all of the information, I was hoping that I could jack the car up and use axle stands underneath it...so isnt it possible to do this...?

Cheers, Barry.

Yes,on the rails where the turret joins or further back where they join the floorpan/bulkhead.

I think I jacked mine up from just under one of the inner suspension mounts.
But with a lowered car, it takes a little dexterity and an un-even drive can hamper matters.

As suggested just put the axle stands under the chassis in the centre of the front lower wishbones.

Mines been on axle stands front and rear for 9 weeks now :(

As others have said, just position the jack on the rails close to the front wishbones and then position the axle stand close to this, but just be careful you dont damage the thick plastic under tray which covers the whole front sub frame.
