Do they?

Postby Tony Smith » Sun Oct 23, 2005 6:09 pm

Er my brakes did'nt fade after 5 or 6 laps at Crouix a few years ago - I found the heat from the turbo heated up the clutch fluid so much you couldn't change gear though! Peter G is on standard brakes and hasn't mentioned them being a problem - pad quality maybe?

You are right about the wheels size, and since I intend to keep the look of the car original, I stick to the 16" frontwheels. So keep on laughing David :?:

What I tried to explain is the simple fact, that the original brakes are not very good, and that a tuning project should start with making sure that the car can stop from higher speed that before. And everyone who has tried a GTA on a track will know that that will be a problem.

And now back to the brakes on my car. 300 mm discs from A610 with Wilwood 4-pot Calipers - and it works very well on the GTA.

Right now the car is on its way to Axel Ress in Germany for a new 2,9 L engine (+325 BHP). We have got the first night frost in Denmark, and the car will not come out untill spring.
When I get it back from Germany I will take some pictures of the brake with the front wheel off. And next year I will know if I have to buy some better brakes
On the way to Nürburg Ring this summer the GPS said 262 km/h, and the brakes showed no sign of fading - even after heavy use from more than 250 km/h several times.

Hi Klaus...

How have you got the A610 discs on when you still have the Lemans 4 bolt wheels?

I bought the brakesystem from Reischl in Germany. It came complete with new holes for the 4 bolt wheels, calipers, mountings and steel hoses. Very easy to put on the car, and I am very satisfied.
Reischl also offers a lot of other tuning parts for Alpine, and his prices are very fair. His homepage doesn't work so you have to call him - even though I do not know if he speaks anything else than German :?
