New Alpine?

Having just looked at August issue of Evo mag. it appears that Renault may resurrect the Alpine name on a new model. The car is to be a 2-door coupe, rear wheel drive and powered by a 3.5 lt V6. Renault now have the right to market a car with the Alpine name on it having bought the rights from Peugeot, so British cars can now be called Alpines.

Yep but front engined? All alpines have always had the engine behind the driver (except the R 5 Alpine which wasn't quite Alpine)

Yes, I agree. Shouldn't an Alpine road car have a central backbone chassis, plastic body, rear engine and be built (mostly) in Dieppe? It smacks of badge engineering to me!

I dont think the configuration of the car matters as long as it drives well and is built in Dieppe....which it would be because thats where Renaultsport are based isnt it??? It would be good to resurrect the name on a stylish fast car, as long as they dont start badging things like the Megane 225 (fat asp!!!) as Alpines. Keep it exclusive for one off cars and I'll be happy.....it would generate some interest in older Alpines like ours too.

Ah that one! Seen it before but hadnt heard the pos. that it would be an Alpine. Bit hefty at 1500kg.......if they put it on a diet and get it down to say.....1300kg, it could be good.

It will be an excellent successor to the A610 then......it looked like a Nissan 200 in a frock!!
