GTA turbo exhaust

Postby paulrob100 » Thu Jun 07, 2018 9:23 pm

Much as I am happy with the standard look / performance of my GTA turbo, I would like it to sound a bit better. Does anyone have a stainless / sports exhaust available. Alternatively, is there an exhaust company in the Nottingham / Derby / Mansfield / Newark area that anyone can recommend to make one up.

I had this made a while back but all jigged up for more. Not sure on current price/del but around £425.

The Mecaparts ones are pretty good..I have the mild steel...one.. the bottom half of this page shows them. A bit pricier than Lee's source...with taxes / shipping.

Forgot to say it makes a good whooshy sound...but does not rattle the neighbours windows. It only just made it under the Goodwood noise limit.

My atmo is also Mecaparts..and that is stainless..and does rattle the neighbours windows a bit.

Dave, have you been happy with the quality of the Mecaparts atmo exhaust? I only ask as I'm sure I saw a post from someone who was not happy with the quality of the welds.

Are you using their tubular manifolds too?

Paul, I think there is a place called Stainless Steel Exhaust Specialist in Sutton in Ashfield that did one for a C.A.R member a while back

It was probably me complaining a bit about the atmo Mecaparts exhaust. Yes I have the complete stainless manifolds and back box.
I have had over ten years.
The sports one has a shorter route than the OEM ...the way the tubes bend mean you can no longer keep the spare in the engine bay. Also the back box has no hangers...not essential...but after a few years decided to get some welded.

I had a couple of quality issues..
A crack around one manifold tube..about an inch from the block.(that was after a couple of years).. then in the last couple of years I had some issues in the back box...one was a leak around a weld, and another where one exit pipe fell off completely. Each time I had it patched up..but I had higher expectations.

In summary I think I got a "Friday afternoon" set..I've not heard issues from others...

Try Paul Sage too..I think he has an exhaust guy who can make up a similar.

Thanks, Dave. Mine still has the original manifolds and mild steel system, which seems fine. Just thinking ahead.

Hi Andy,

(Paul, I think there is a place called Stainless Steel Exhaust Specialist in Sutton in Ashfield that did one for a C.A.R member a while back.)

This was me. I had one made there for my previous GTA, and they made me one for my last A610, I think 98 decibel so again under the Goodwood decibel limit.

Here's a link to their web site : http://www.stainless-exhaust.com/

I went there for a day and they removed my old exhaust and made me a new one comprising two small boxes. I know they made a jig for the GTA one so maybe they still have it. Very good quality and a great sound, worth a phone call...!

Cheers, Barry

Thanks for the replies

Barry, I think I spoke to you at last years CAR AGM about your exhaust. I emailed the company in Sutton in Ashfield but got no reply. I will give them a call.
