Some detail jobs. Car has a central fuel tank with filler in the rear wing. Rh catch is original unrestored and has been left that way to show that it’s original fitment. The LH catch was always missing but I was lucky to find an identical new old stock catch on ebay and just made up a bracket to suit.

More small jobs which always take longer than you expect.

Front bonnet catch.

Stainless catches seemed to match the chrome on the car better than silver anodised but the stainless catches only come with nasty BZP pins so had to buy two sets for each catch to get a stainless catch and alloy pin.

Picked up the new rims last week. Pleased with how they turned out.

4 piston brake conversion test fitted to front hub:

5FD7B6E2-7F89-4CAF-914C-97AEB5D473D4.jpeg

Bracket is rear mounted so first step is to undo the hub nut and remove the hub with a puller. The new bracket then bolts directly to the stub axle.

Disk is then bolted to the rear of the hub.

Hub assembly with disk is then refitted to the stub axle.

Caliper is lug mounted and simply bolts to the new bracket.

8B64F055-4386-4BF5-B1D5-DA283A82283A.jpeg

Shins are used to make sure the Caliper is perfectly central to the disk.

New disks are also larger 277mm and will fit behind most popular 13” wheels including cosmics.

Interesting to see what you're doing with this car.

Recently I did some dimensional checking on the standard callipers on my car in relation to selecting a new set of wheels (13"). As you'll know, the outside of the standard front callipers are quite close to the inside diameter of the wheels. My first thought when looking at your photos was how would that caliper fit inside the wheel. I then realised that earlier in the thread you'd said you were using 15" wheels so clearance shouldn't be an issue. However you do say the discs, although larger, will fit most popular 13" wheels. The discs at 277mm diameter would definitely fit, I'm interested in how the calipers would fit as they just look too large in a direction away from the wheel centreline. The inside diameter of my current wheels is 320 mm so if the callipers protruded beyond the discs by 22mm they would foul. Maybe it's hard to judge from the photos but if they do fit, as you say, all to the good. Presumably without reducing the rear offset of the wheels also?

Are you able to say where the kit was sourced from?

What happened to the third hub/disc attachment bolt and nut?

Here it is on the car. Ignore the disk direction it was the first one I picked up!

In answer to your questions the kit was designed by hi spec for my Renault 8 and I asked for it to fit behind 13” one piece cosmic rims which it did. I’m not a big fan of the French big brake kits as they are mostly bodged to fit with shaved down Calipers etc. The suspension is basically the same on both cars so I figured it would also fit the A110.

The wheels I’m using were originally 13” but rebuilt to 15” so while there is loads of room within the rim the clearance for the centre is still tight maybe 2 or 3mm in places. However there is scope to move the Caliper further inboard by at least 5mm and while it would theoretically reduce the braking force by a tiny margin 270mm or smaller disks would have been ok and also looked more aesthetically pleasing through the rim!

The third bolt is missing because either I never had one or hi spec lost one! It’s a spare hub and that’s all the bolts I had, mine are redrilled to 6 bolts for the existing big brake kit. If you have a spare bolt and/or another hub I would be interested as I don’t want to use hubs that have been drilled to death :-)

Thanks for the additional photos and explanation. I don't have any spare hub bolts or hubs unfortunately.
Keep up the good work.

Out of interest, what's the reason for the shorter tie bars? Something to do with the nose end of the gearbox?

As far as I’m aware better triangulation together with the solid mounts reduces tramping from the swing axle.

Fighting with a seized bush in a lower front arm this weekend.

CBCBD15A-DF0F-454A-939A-24C43D249697.jpeg

30 tonne press frame was flexing trying to push the bush out. This was an accident waiting to happen so decided to burn out the rubber and cut the bush out.

CDEFDD19-2034-44B6-B4DD-4706E0846964.jpeg

Managed to save the crucial components but the pivot bolt and spacer tube were scrap. I had a spare pivot bolt and new spacers will be made from 3mm aluminium tube.

Once they were off I noticed that one arm was the reinforced type and one was standard so will fabricate and weld on a matching plate before sending to the powder coaters.

Here are the salvaged wishbone mounts cleaned up. Notice the wrecked spacer tube is missing from one side.

Horrible cut down front springs were still slightly too long 200mm and the mecaparts springs I had in stock were even longer still at 225mm which is apparently correct for a rear radiator car.
