Some spirited driving - nothing crazy.

No pothole or anything like that, but some firm cornering - i'd put money on some body flex

Saw an Alpine trained tech at the weekend.
I hear that the "fix" is to add more "pads" to the surround before the bonding glue is applied.
Not thinker pads, not 2 at a time, just more of them, up and down the A pillar.

Which window is that cracked on yours? Is it a side glass?

Body flex as opposed to a seam fabrication error would seem to have the potential to affect all our cars and is worrying.

I read that the glass in the A110 is thinner and lighter than that mostly used and if that’s the case, it would seem to be a contributing factor.

When was your car built? The French owners, who have greater numbers of cars, seem to be confident that the problem has been resolved, and therefore recent cars should be unaffected.

Not necessarily. Delamination, though not cracking, was a problem on many TVRs up to the early 90's. The problem was that the windscreen was the stiffest part of the body, and it therefore took the stress. Making the window thicker, and therefore stiffer, might make the problem worse.

Nevertheless, I see the French guys on the FAR site are also discussing the possibility of body flex, which as you say, is worrying for all sorts of reasons.

Car is back with second replacement windscreen fitted, we'll see how that goes. I was told that they have used a different compound glue now so that it can flex a little more but also told that the windscreen is thinner than standard glass.

One other point from the technician when I mentioned the correspondence on this forum is that they don't really read forum stuff. Shame.

So you stop in the dark and just want to sit there and take in the night time view without light pollution.

How the heck do you turn off the info screen and more importantly the instrument panel to stop them blindind you - without having to waitabout 10 mins???

I think the only way is to push the stop/start and open the drivers door

I've had the opposite problem- when I take it to the station my wife normally stays in the car until the last minute listening to R4. As soon as I get out it goes off...
I think the workaround has been to turn it off when I'm out of the car.

I agree a key would have been just fine. I tend to use the fob rather than keyless entry as it seems if the car is locked by fob then only the fob can open it. I think that reduces the chance of signal repeaters being used to gain entry. It's not a problem, just not an option I would have bothered with. It's quite possible a key switch would have weighed more.

I do miss the "night panel" switch my Saab has which turns off all displays and interior lights save for the speedo - rev counter only wakes up if acceleraing hard. Perhaps the spare switch in the cabin could be programmed to do this?

Wonder if the dash turn off period is configurable in the software though. That would do.
