That'd be a 21 wiv a wicked body kit guy 8) :?
My point is, it's never going to be a GTA with 300 BHP ,as its not got the proper PP.................................

ah, but Alpine made 3 GTA's with J7R engines, so there!

I think if you keep it Renault varianted, its fair. Some of the best GTA's have Peugoet 24v engines and as much power as a boosted turbo V6..

..but I agree, a totally different engine is no longer an Alpine....

After all, the cars are Alpine - Renault :D

What type of wing mirrors are they?

Europa cup

I think its easy to build up a car quicker than a Europa cup even with a PRV - I'll be disappointed if my 3 litre even in full road trim isn't quicker! The engines were fairly standard after all. Would love an Ultima but thats circa 30k. I have a GTA atmo and a GTA V6 sat at home both needing paint and various other bits and pieces so at least 1 needs to become my track car for next year. After everyones comments I think I'm going to revert to the twin turbo idea, save myself some money and just be stuck with a slower car! Unless I can get the weight down to about 700kg! - under a ton would be nice though.

Get the wieght down to 700 Kg......
best you invest in carbon..... we are! our aim is to get the spider down under 700, dry weight, will take some doing though.

Get it sorted!!! see you on the circuit :evil: I will arrange a few track days next year not in the UK of course :!:
so get beavering away over the winter :P

I know I won't get anywhere near 700 kg it was just the weight I would need to get the same power to weight ratio as with a 400 bhp V8!

Didnt the Europa cars come with about 280bhp? I also thought they weighed 1050kg? If I'm right then your 3 litre road car is going to need a hell of a lot of power to make it quicker as its going to weigh a couple of hundred kilos more in road trim.

I've looked at one and they don't have much changed, they were rated at 250 CH which is slightly less in bhp. So power to weight at 1050 kg is approx 238 bhp/ton. I reckon my car will weigh about 1200 kg - although I have added some items, my exhaust is about 15-20 kg lighter and I don't carry a spare wheel - just foam! So according to my calculations I will need about 285 bhp to have the same power to weight (but far superior torque to weight) ratio. I'll be disapointed if I can't bridge 300bhp - I should know fairly soon now. What have you got the weight on yours down to now Pete? I've stripped everything bar the centre console out of the interior, and removed all the rear glass. I'm going to perspex the side windows and remove the leccy window motors, all underbonnet trim to be removed. Got AZEVs with track rubber and race seats ready so its starting to take shape.

Different car

I have 3 GTA's at the moment - the black one you saw at Donnington which will be kept in full road trim - sort of ultimate fast road spec. The tungsten turbo I have stripped out ready to be a road legal track day/sprint special. The 3rd is very rough so will either break for parts or if the shell is ok I may turn it into a drag car - this will be along time in the future though!

Sounds like a plan, just make sure you know what youre doing if you want to sprint or hillclimb. At the minute, having stripped the interior and fitted sticky tyres you are heading for the modified production class in which its mandatory to fit at least a four point roll cage. Harness specs have changed for next year too....its mandatory to fit 3" FIA spec as of 1st January 2006 in all classes.

Tony will definately be in the modified production class with the other mods he has planned. This should not be a problem. He will need to fit a cage though.

Peter, according to my MSA rule book you are also automatically in the modified class if you make any changes to suspension ride height or shock absorbers. For roadgoing production class it states suspension configuration must remain standard. Have any of the scruntineers ever picked this up?

Due to popular demand we are planning a small competitive series next year and I know that some of you are already making preparations. (suit helmets etc). As the club is MSA registered I have copies of all the relevant rulebooks etc and will make basic details available on the site ASAP. I believe someone already had their helmet impounded for non-compliance a couple of weeks ago!

Configuration does not mean height or settings Stephen :D !!!!!! If you interpreted configuration as ride height, absolutely no one who competes would be eligible. Configuration means not changing the pick up angles or roll bar mounts, or changing torsion bars (or hydragas) for springs We have the strictest scrutineers in Britain when we visit Scotland......trust me!
